BUILT FOR AUSTRALIAN ARBORISTS

Tree reports, brought back down to earth.

Built by Australian arborists, consultants and tree professionals who got fed up paying US dollars for software that didn't know what a TPZ (Tree Protection Zone) was. Purpose-built for AS 4970:2025 (Protection of Trees on Development Sites), from the ground up, in Australia.

HOW IT STARTED

The whole industry was using tools built for someone else's trees.

It started with a shared frustration. Consulting arborists writing development reports, council tree officers managing urban canopy, environmental consultants preparing impact assessments, risk assessors out in the field: all of them using software built in the United States or the United Kingdom, priced in foreign currency, and designed around standards that had nothing to do with AS 4970 or AS 4373.

The apps asked for DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) in inches. They didn't know what a TPZ (Tree Protection Zone) was. NRZ (No Root Zone) calculations had to be done by hand in a spreadsheet, then copied into a Word template, then formatted by eye. A condition assessment that should take twenty minutes in the field and fifteen minutes at a desk was taking the better part of a morning. And for the privilege, practitioners were paying hundreds of dollars a month, US dollars, to a company that had never heard of Australian planning schemes or a Development-Impacted Tree report.

For clients navigating the planning process, the situation was even worse. Homeowners, developers and councils receiving arboricultural reports generated by overseas software were getting documents full of unfamiliar terminology, zones calculated to the wrong standard, and recommendations framed around American or British planning requirements that bore no resemblance to their own permit conditions. Instead of giving clients clarity in an already complicated planning landscape, the reports were adding to the confusion.

So a group of people from across the industry, consulting arborists, urban foresters, tree report writers, development consultants and council practitioners, got together and decided to build what should have existed years ago.

The result is Moonah. AS 4970:2025 and AS 4373-2007 (Pruning of Amenity Trees) built in from day one, not bolted on. TPZ, NRZ and SRZ (Structural Root Zone) calculated automatically the moment you enter a measurement. Planning and environmental overlays identified automatically for your work area, so nothing catches you or your client off guard. Reports that look like they were designed for Australian councils, because they were. No imperial units. No overseas subscription. No support desk in a different time zone. Just a tool that works the way the industry actually works.

THE NAME

Why "Moonah"?

Inspired by the iconic Moonah tree (Melaleuca lanceolata) that has shaped Australia's southern coastline for centuries, the platform reflects the same values: resilience, simplicity and a strong connection to place.

Gnarled and salt-hardened, it's stood in the wind along these shores longer than the towns around it. It's local, it's tough, it endures, and it stays put. The right name for a tool that does the same.

Local roots.
Australia-wide.
WHAT IT DOES
