HOW IT WORKS

From site survey to professional report in minutes.

Create a project, map your trees with protection zones calculated for you, and export a branded report — all in one connected workflow.

WHY MOONAH EXISTS

Moonah started with conversations.

Talking with arborists and people producing tree reports made one thing clear: a lot of time was being spent moving the same information between field notes, photos, spreadsheets, mapping tools and report templates.

The question became simple: could the whole process work better?

Moonah was built from there. Those conversations — about where time is lost, where information is duplicated, and what could be made simpler — helped shape a simpler workflow for moving from field assessment to professional report.

The aim isn't to replace professional judgement. It's to give tree professionals better tools around it, reducing repetitive admin and making it easier to turn good fieldwork into a professional report. Moonah will continue to be shaped by the people using it.

Built in Australia for Australian tree reporting. Designed around Australian arboricultural reporting requirements, including AS 4970:2025 (Protection of Trees on Development Sites) and AS 4373-2007 (Pruning of Amenity Trees). Enter a DSH and the NRZ is calculated immediately; add a trunk diameter and the SRZ follows; the TPZ is yours to record and adjust.

BUILT AROUND THE WAY TREE REPORTING ACTUALLY HAPPENS

Assess it once.

Field notes. Photos. Tree schedules. TPZ and SRZ calculations. Mapping. Report templates. Producing a tree report can mean handling the same information several times before the report reaches the client.

Moonah is designed to bring that workflow together. Capture the information once, then carry it through to the finished report.

Whether you're an independent consulting arborist or part of a larger arboricultural practice, Moonah is designed to reduce the double-handling between fieldwork and the finished report.

THE NAME

Why "Moonah"?

Inspired by the iconic Moonah tree (Melaleuca lanceolata) that has shaped Australia's southern coastline for centuries, the platform reflects the same values: resilience, simplicity and a strong connection to place.

Gnarled and salt-hardened, it's stood in the wind along these shores longer than the towns around it. It's local, it's tough, it endures, and it stays put. The right name for a tool that does the same.

Local roots.
Australia-wide.
WHAT IT DOES

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Capture in the field
Record tree information, observations and photos while you're on site — even with no signal. Template-driven forms keep the data consistent across the whole survey.
Calculate
Support for common arboricultural calculations such as TPZ (Tree Protection Zone), NRZ (Notional Root Zone) and SRZ (Structural Root Zone) — without rebuilding them manually later. Enter a DSH and the NRZ is calculated; the TPZ stays adjustable by the arborist.
Map the site
Bring tree locations and relevant site information into the reporting workflow, including planning and environmental overlays detected at the site — VPO, ESO, BMO and more.
Build the report
Carry field information through into a professional, branded report — cover page, assessment schedule, individual tree sheets and a site location map — without re-entering the same data.
Environmental context
Every project shows indicative CO₂ sequestration, oxygen production and stormwater benefits of the trees on site — decision-support context for conversations about retention and removal.
ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Every recommendation has an ecological consequence.

Removing a mature tree isn't just a landscape decision. It releases decades of stored carbon, eliminates annual CO₂ sequestration, reduces stormwater interception and diminishes urban biodiversity. Moonah puts these ecosystem services in front of practitioners and their clients at every decision point — not as a compliance footnote, but as genuine decision support.

CO₂ sequestration
A 300 mm trunk: ~8 kg CO₂/yr
Moonah estimates the annual carbon sequestered by each retained tree and the CO₂ equivalent stored in its biomass — so proposals to remove are weighed against a real number, not a vague notion of 'environmental value'.
Oxygen production
That same tree: ~6 kg O₂/yr
Photosynthesis converts CO₂ into oxygen. The annual O₂ contribution of the trees on a site gives clients a tangible sense of what urban canopy does for air quality — especially in high-density areas.
Stormwater interception
A 6 m canopy: ~6,800 L/yr
Canopy intercepts rainfall before it hits impervious surfaces, reducing peak flows and pollutant runoff. In a planning context, retaining mature trees is often the most cost-effective stormwater management strategy available.
i

A note on precision. Ecosystem service figures in Moonah are indicative estimates derived from published urban forest allometric models, not precise measurements. Actual values vary with species, growth rate, health, local rainfall and management history. They are provided as decision-support context — to prompt better conversations between practitioners and clients about what tree canopy does and what its removal costs. Where precise quantification is required, independent ecological assessment remains necessary.
